Get Wisdom

We all need wisdom: at work, at home, and everywhere else. But how good are you at finding it?

To give you a few extra options, let me introduce you to three sources who have taught me a lot this year:

1) My great friend, Jonathan Steenland, founding partner of Zyston, LLC

Jonathan had a vision for a new business and took bold action when the opportunity presented itself. His passion for cyber-security boils over in every conversation we have, and he works hard to make a difference in the world of technology by growing the next generation of cyber-security leaders. What he’s teaching me:

• Prepare for action!
• When the door is open, walk boldly through it.

2) The Dallas/Fort Worth Technology Prayer Breakfast “Merv Tarde Values in Leadership Circle” inductees

Learning from these accomplished tech leaders continues to be a tremendous blessing. They boldly live out their faith in Jesus Christ as servant leaders in the industry and every area of their lives. Holding to their convictions rooted in truth, they can inspire us all by their examples. What they’re teaching me:

• Focus on what’s truly important first.
• Start with your why, and all of the how and the what can flow from there.
• Lead with integrity and serve with a genuine heart.

3) My wonderful wife, Kappi Helms, owner and operator of Declutter With Me

Last year, Kappi found that she was being called to help others find their purpose in a unique way. She started a company to help people get rid of the clutter that steals their focus from the truly important things in life. She has a great impact on the lives of her clients, and those clients have become her greatest advocates. What she’s teaching me:

• When God puts something on your heart, don’t hesitate. Act.
• Once you act, give it your full effort and God will bless it.

Let’s continue to seek out wisdom every day, through impactful events like the DFW Technology Prayer Breakfast on Oct. 5 – and especially from Scripture:

• “Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice.” Proverbs 1:20
• “Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding.” Proverbs 3:13
• “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!” Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
