Today’s post if from Jeff Clement who is the Chairman of the DFW Technology Prayer Breakfast.

Jesus last message to his disciples still applies to those who follow Him today.  Christians are empowered by God to accomplish the things He gives us to do, and it’s God Himself who gives the increase.

Consider these truths from the Bible:

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.  (Matthew 28:19-20)

I (Paul) planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering.  What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.  The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose.  And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.  (1 Corinthians 3:5-8)

Jesus’ last message to His disciples and to His followers today, was to “Go.”  It wasn’t a request, it was a command.  In other words, these are marching orders given to those of us who consider ourselves His followers.  Have you embraced the marching orders He left with us?

Planting the seedIn the Corinthians passage above, Paul uses the analogy of planting and watering to describe the work God called him to.  This helps us understand that each of us has specific roles to play in the kingdom of God.  Inviting others to attend, asking questions, investing in relationships, mentoring and guiding are ways we can participate through the DFW Technology Prayer Breakfast.  What’s important is that we faithfully complete the tasks that God gives us and then leave the results to Him.

Consider Simon Peter who worked hard all night and caught nothing (Luke 5).  Yet when he obeyed Jesus’ instruction to put down his net, the net could not even contain the result.  The increase was supernatural and could not have been accomplished as a result of changes in the conditions, or Simon Peter’s ability.  It was God who gave the increase.  True increase in all aspects of our lives, comes from God.  This is only accomplished when we choose to participate with God’s work of grace in our lives.  It’s not our self-effort that ultimately causes growth.  So, let’s commit to following through with our part and leaving the results to God!

Prayer

“Father, thank you that you created each of us on purpose and for a purpose.  You’ve equipped each of us and given us tasks or assignments to accomplish your purposes for our lives.  Thank you too, that you equipped us for those tasks and, it’s you alone who gives the increase.  May we embrace your command to “Go” and surrender the results to you.  In Jesus Name we pray.  Amen.”
